2022 Hobby Recap

2022 was a slower year for the hobby. Despite all the excitement of a new edition of Horus Heresy, I just did not get nearly as many models painted or games played as I did the last few years. Career and family have just taken up more time this year with work being demanding and life being busier with kid activities than ever before.

As I said, nowhere near the pace of the last few years, but not a terrible output. Definitely hoping to step it up a notch in 2023. We are off to a good start with a great game on Jan 1 and probably my best battle report completed shortly after. I just need to find more time for painting, but it is tough when the kids have practice almost every evening and I have conference calls for work on evenings and weekends to interrupt things as well. But we shall persevere! I am fired up to build and paint a lot of stuff for my White Scars this year. After getting beaten up and down the planet of Xhorik Prime for the last 5+ years, I am finally going to get serious about fielding some effective units for this poor army. Up to this point, I have just painted what I think are fun and characterful models for the V Legion, but it definitely gets old not being able to compete in games, year after year. It limits the fun things we can do with campaigns and the story has become stagnant (how many times can the same result occur and still have any compelling drama or story?). So I will try to do better to give Pete a good game rather than an easy walk in the park every time except for when we pick a scenario or armies to deliberately give the Scars a chance. Who knows, this may even be the year that I finally build a Super Heavy to compete with the Fellblade that Pete has been using against me for almost five years!
