Xhorik 87th Drop Troops Full Army Update

Here is my full progress so far on the Xhorik 87th Drop Troops Regiment, F Company:

In front of the city walls with defense turret and incredibly realistic blue sky...

With unit identifiers.

The photos are not organized exactly as they are allowed to be in the rules. I made a few adjustments for aesthetics like not mixing model types in the same squads.

The army list as it stands now, using the Elysian Drop Troops list from Imperial Armor Volume Three (2nd Edition): The Taros Campaign.

Company Command Squad (195 pts)

    • Commander Xhosa with plasma pistol and power sword
    • Missile launcher team
    • Plasma gun
    • Vox caster
    • Medi-pack
    • Carapace armor
    • 2 x Bodyguards

2nd Platoon

  • Platoon Command Squad (40 pts)
  • Infantry Squad 1 (75 pts)
    • Melta gun
    • Vox caster

  • Infantry Squad 1 (65 pts)
    • Grenade launcher
  • Support Squad 1 (75 pts)
    • Melta guns
  • Support Squad 2 (75 pts)
    • Melta guns
  • Drop Sentinel Squadron (140 pts)
    • Two sentinels with multi-meltas
  • Valkyrie (125 pts)
    • Lascannon, hellstrike missiles, heavy bolters

Veteran Squad (170 pts)
    • Three sniper rifles
    • Missile launcher
    • Grenadiers (carapace armor)
    • Forward observers (infiltrate and tracking beacon)
Tauros (45 pts)
    • Tauros grenade launcher

Sentry Guns (135 pts)
    • Three sentry guns with twin-linked lascannon

Total: 1,140 points

I have a few models with no rules (second medi-pack) and I need a Lieutenant for the Platoon Command squad, but I can roughly play this army list with the models I have painted now, which is pretty exciting. But it is kind of crazy that this force is over 1100 points. I thought I was just making a small army but these guys are pricey. Just to paint up what I own and another 1 - 2 flyers would take me to around 2000 points. On the plus side, I will have a full army of Drop Troops. The downside is that it is hard to see them being competitive in games at these point costs. Maybe in 6th Edition 40k where they belong, the points made sense. But even with a discounted cost, these guys are severely outclassed by the space marines in Horus Heresy.

If I use the Imperial Militia Rules from the Crusade Imperialis book, this is the list.

  • Force Commander (180 pts)
    • Power weapon, plasma pistol, cyber-familiar, Iron Halo,
    • Warrior Elite and Cyber-Augmetics

  • Militia Infantry Squad x 20 (60 pts)
    • Lascarbines

  • Militia Grenadier Squad x 12 (90 pts)
    • Plasma gun and grenade launcher

  • Auxilia Arvus Lighter (115 pts)
    • Lascannon, two hellstrike missiles
  • Auxilia Medicae x 2 (27 pts)
  • Militia Recon Squad x 5 (95 pts)
    • Sniper Rifles, cameleoline
  • Militia Fire Support Squad x 7 Teams (175 pts)
    • Not sure what weapons melta guns look like? Assume missile launcher points.
  • Tarantula Guns (120 pts)
    • Twin-linked lascannons
  • Sentinel Scout Squadron x 2 (80 pts)
    • Lascannons
  • Tauros Model - Counts as Sentinel with Missile Launcher (35 pts)
Total: 977 points

The points work out about 15% less than the Elysian list. This army list trades Deep Strike for durability with a 6++ invulnerable save (thanks to Cyber-augmetics) and additional medics for Feel No Pain across more units, at a cost discount. The flyer is a little weaker and cheaper.
